In 1995 a film was released that divided hackers, nerds or whatever you want to call them. The film "Hackers - Inside the FBI's Network". Some love it, others hate it. I find it quite funny and entertaining and now there is proof that I am not the only one. The "Hacker" fans from hackerscurator have recreated Lord Nikon's (played by Laurence Mason in the film) laptop.

Each of the laptops used in the film reflects its owner. From color variations to camouflage look to boot animations, everything is designed down to the last detail. But what I think very few people know is that the laptops in the film are actually functional self-built items. That means the prop makers had to put in a lot of hardware hacking to build the laptops.
In the film, Nikon's laptop consists of two different laptops. The casing is a Toshiba Satellite T1850.

The innards come (originally) from an Apple Powerbook 180c.

However, the innards of the Powerbook have been replaced by a RaspberryPi and other more modern components, making them significantly more powerful than the laptops used in the film.

and luckily the hobbyist recorded the whole thing on video to show you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxY6CUimZ9M (YouTube)

Have fun with it.

I'll probably have to dig out some old hardware from the basement to do some tinkering.
